Sometimes I feel like the companies have the least significant screw-ups are the ones that win. I guess I feel this way because I look at my company and see success among screw-ups. Not that I’ve done a bad job, but I think taking risks and growing a company takes overcoming screw-ups. Maybe the key is to look at these little disasters as opportunities in disguise. For me, I’ve adhered to these three things:
1) don’t let the screw-ups be so significant they can’t be fixed;
2) realize as early as possible that you’ve made a screw-up;
3) learn from it.
Maybe the reason I’m still here is that I always seem to find these three things inside every crisis; thus the opportunity to grow the company.
